
Dr. Leila Janani

Leila Janani is an Advanced Research Fellow and Senior Clinical Trials Statistician at the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit (ICTU). She is also the Deputy Head of Trial Methodology (StatsCI) within ICTU. Currently, she holds an NIHR DSE fellowship, focusing on innovative and flexible trial designs in critical care settings. Leila has over 13 years of experience in the design and analysis of studies in healthcare Research.
She joined ICTU in January 2021 and is currently working on the TREAT trial, an innovative Bayesian non-inferiority trial for treating severe paediatric asthma, along with several adaptive and group sequential trials. Her current methodological research focuses on designing and implementing efficient trials and utilising Bayesian approaches, particularly in critical care settings.
Leila is a member of the NIHR Statistics Working Group on Improving Statistical Literacy and also serves on several Trial Steering Committees (TSCs) and Independent Data Monitoring Committees (IDMCs).
Leila co-leads the ICTU Contemporary Clinical Trials course with Professor Victoria Cornelius, providing practical training for investigators designing clinical trials. Leila began her career as an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the Iran University of Medical Sciences in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Professor after four years. She has also served as the Head of the Biostatistics Unit at the Clinical Trial Centre (CTC) at Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
