Video Tutorials
Getting Started with MAXQDA
In this video tutorial we will show you the basics of working with MAXQDA 24. We will look at how we can import material into our MAXQDA project and structure it, how we can view and edit documents, how we can create initial analytical categories, so-called codes, and how we can organize them. We will also discuss the different options we have to record notes, thoughts and background information about our material. Finally, we will also go through different output options.
MAXQDA – The New Features
New MAXQDA Version out now! Say hello to a brand-new Survey Analysis workspace and a QTT Mixed Methods Worksheet honoring John Creswell. The brand-new Survey Analysis workspace is designed to make working with surveys more intuitive and powerful. At the center of this workspace is the new Questions Browser in the left panel, which displays all survey questions—both open- and closed-ended ones. Selecting an open-ended question instantly shows all responses on the right, alongside the code system. Closed-ended questions are just as easy to work with. With a single click, the main panel on the right switches to a chart view that highlights frequencies and percentages, either as a chart or as a sortable table for a more detailed breakdown. For years, MAXQDA’s QTT (Questions – Themes – Theories) tool has helped researchers bring their analytical insights and findings together in one place. Now, we’re expanding QTT’s capabilities with the new Mixed Methods QTT Worksheet, inspired by the influential framework developed by Prof. John W. Creswell.
How to code with MAXQDA
In this video tutorial we take a closer look at how we can code our material in MAXQDA 24. Coding in MAXQDA means that we assign a segment of our material to an analytical category. We start with the simple creation of initial codes for individual sections of text and also look at how to code images, video files and tables. We look at specific coding options that are suitable for a grounded theory-informed approach, as well as the automatic coding of individual keywords or entire sentences and sections.
Transcribing with MAXQDA
In this video tutorial, we will take a closer look at how to transcribe audio and video files in MAXQDA 24. Since we basically have two options for transcribing our data in MAXQDA, we will discuss both options one after the other and start with automatic transcription via MAXQDA Transcription, which is now available with AI Assist in MAXQDA 24 which can be purchased via our online shop. We will then take a look at the manual transcription that we can perform in MAXQDA and go through the workflow for transcription with MAXQDA.
Organizing the code system with MAXQDA
In this video tutorial, we will take a closer look at how to organize our code system: we will see how we can create hierarchical relationships in our code system, merge codes, copy subcodes and coded segments from one code to another, how to apply color tags to our codes and how to rearrange our code system using the creative coding tool. And last but not least we will also take a look at how we can export our code system from MAXQDA.
The Retrieved Segments Window in MAXQDA
In this MAXQDA tutorial, we'll explore how to work with the list of coded segments in MAXQDA – for example, how to view all coded segments of a specific code in selected documents. We'll also take a look at the comment function within the list of coded segments, the complex segment search – which allows you to investigate overlaps, intersections, and other relationships between coded segments of different codes – and the 'Compare Cases and Groups' function.
Automatic transcription with MAXQDA
In this video tutorial, we will show you how to automatically transcribe your audio or video files using MAXQDA transcription.
AI Assist in MAXQDA: all features
AI Assist offers a range of helpful functions for using the possibilities of generative language models directly in MAXQDA. The functions support you in a variety of ways in your analysis work. With the help of artificial language intelligence, AI Assist automatically creates summaries of selected texts or encodings and provides suggestions for new codes or suitable subcodes. In this video tutorial, we take a look at all the functions of AI Assist in MAXQDA 24.
AI Assist: Chat with This Document
In this video tutorial we will take a look at the newest AI Assist feature: Chat with This Document. It's designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, making your research process even more efficient. Users can ask any question about the document content within a chat. For instance, users can inquire about the most relevant topics discussed in an interview or seek insights into an interviewee's opinions on a specific topic. The AI Chat revolutionizes the user experience by allowing conversational engagement with their data. Users can reset conversations anytime, and references are visually differentiated for easy identification. By clicking on a citation, the referenced section will be retrieved in the Document Browser for easy review. AI Chat empowers users to harness dialogue's transformative potential, expanding perspectives and uncovering overlooked insights.
Saving project files and creating backups in MAXQDA
In this video tutorial we will show you how data storage works in MAXQDA, how you can create backups of your project file yourself and have MAXQDA create automatic backup copies of your project file.
Paraphrasing with MAXQDA
In this video, we'll look at how we can use MAXQDA to paraphrase segments from our material, whether it's text or media files. In addition, we will take a closer look at creating paraphrases with the virtual research assistant AI Assist and find out how we can summarize the paraphrases of a document with its help.
Analysing Surveys with MAXQDA
In this tutorial, you will learn how to professionally evaluate survey data with open-ended and closed questions using MAXQDA. MAXQDA allows you to import survey data directly from Excel, SurveyMonkey, or SPSS. After importing, open-ended responses are automatically saved as text in documents and coded with the corresponding questions, while closed questions are saved as variables. In the Survey Analysis Workspace, open-ended responses are automatically coded, while closed-ended questions appear as numerical variables. With MAXQDA, you can use AI Assist to suggest new subcodes from responses, automatically recognize sentiments (positive/neutral/negative), and assign them directly as new codes. In the Survey Analysis Workspace, you automatically see charts for closed questions (bar charts, pie charts) and can convert them into tables, customize color schemes, or export them. With AI Assist, you automatically receive suggested subcodes from open-ended responses and can automatically code sentiments (positive/neutral/negative), which is particularly helpful for large data sets. All analyses are stored in MAXQDA, and you can add comments to segments, customize charts, and export them—all in a single, intuitive workspace. With MAXQDA, you can seamlessly analyze qualitative and quantitative survey data—ideal for research, marketing, and social sciences.
